The assessments can be taken online or at Ohio’s official test centers.

The exams offer people who did not graduate high school the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

GED® testing is done entirely computer-based, while the HiSET® is offered both on paper and on a computer.

The GED has four individual subtests covering

  • Language Arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

These sub-exams are independent modules that may be completed separately.

The HiSET includes five tests, as there are two literacy tests (writing and reading). These subtests may also be taken separately.

In earlier days, testing had to be done at an official Ohio testing center. Online GED or HiSET testing was not possible!

But recently, there were some interesting developments resulting in online HiSET and GED testing options. Read more below.

Ohio’s Adult Education program is called ASPIRE.

Until recently, to earn your Ohio high school equivalency diploma, your personal appearance at one of the state’s official testing facilities was a requirement. But recently, we’ve seen some great new developments! The GED and HiSET exams can now also be taken in an online format.
