GED Classes Arlington, Virginia

Last Updated on April 10, 2024.

This post lists all GED prep classes and testing sites in the Arlington, Virginia, region. The GED test offers adults who didn’t graduate high school another opportunity to acquire an equivalent credential.

GED testing can be done online and at certified Virginia testing facilities.

The GED® exam measures academic proficiency at a level that may also be expected of a graduating HS senior.

There are four computer-based GED subtests (modules) in

  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • English Language

The subtests may be taken one at a time. There is no requirement to complete the four tests in one take.

Until recently, there was never an online GED test-taking option. You were required to come, in person, to a state-designated Virginia test center.

GED Passing Score

The passing score on each of the four modules is 145. Scoring is measured on a 100-200 scale. So, you need to score 580 points or more overall to earn your high school equivalency credential. Scoring is as follows:

  • Below Passing Score: 100-144
  • High School Equivalency Score: 145-164
  • College-Ready Score: 165-174
  • College Ready + Credit Score: 175-200

You can take one or more of the subtests at a time if you wish.

Launching Online GED Testing

It used to be that sitting for the GED exam via the Internet was no option. If you were looking to get hold of your Virginia GED diploma, you were required to show up personally at a state-approved Virginia GED testing facility.

This has now changed, however, with the launch of an online proctored option to sit for the four GED modules from your home. An online proctor monitors if your testing occurs in accordance with the regulations. To learn all about this interesting development, visit The introduction of the online GED test.

Who is the GED for?

The GED program is designed for individuals who were once enrolled in high school but, for various reasons, could not complete graduation requirements. Preparation is your key to success, and developing and/or refreshing your skills and/or knowledge are highly recommended for successfully completing the GED exam.

Students should take the GED Ready practice test to learn about their test readiness. This assessment indicates if they are likely to pass or require more preparation and in which subject areas.

GED Cost

When registering for the GED exam, you can pay as you go. This means that you can pay for the GED subject tests individually. In Virginia, the fee per subject test is $36, so the total testing fee is $144.

Online GED testing is the same price. The cost is also $36 per sub-exam ($144 in total). To qualify for online testing, however, you must attain sufficient scores on four GED Ready practice tests, which will set you back an additional $28 (4 tests at $6.99 each). So, your overall cost will be $172 for online testing.

You’ll need to create an account on the website GED.com. Then, you’ll have access to MyGED and get help with registration and scheduling your tests, which can be done 24/7.

As said before, you pay as you go, and you can choose which subtest(s) you take and when and where. MyGED also gives you the prep tools to get all set for test day, and there are many resources to support you after you’ve passed the exam and to move forward.

Do we need to include or delist a facility? Are adjustments or updates required? Please inform us here.
