This page lists all GED and HiSET test locations and prep sites in the Bozeman area. In Montana, you’ll have to pass the five HiSET or four GED subtests if you want to earn your high school equivalency credential.
The HiSET® and GED® exams can be taken both online and at state-approved Montana test centers.
The assessments are for individuals who did not finish high school, and offer them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.
The HiSET exam contains five tests in these academic subjects
- Language Arts Reading
- Language Arts Writing
- Social Studies
The GED test has four sub-exams as the Language Reading and Writing sections were combined into one Reasoning through Language Arts test.
Both exams measure academic proficiency at the same level that is expected from HS graduates.
The GED and HiSET subtests are independent modules that may, if wished, be taken individually. The HiSET exam is available on paper and in a computer-based format, whereas the GED is fully computer-based.
In the past, taking the exams online was no option. Applicants were required to show up at an official state-recognized testing site.
Recently, however, that has changed with the launch of the ‘HiSET-At-Home’ and ‘Online Proctored GED Test’ options. You can read more at the bottom of this page.

Montana traded the GED for the HiSET exam for the state’s HSE (High School Equivalency) program a few years back because the GED was only offered on a computer, and the price skyrocketed. Now, Montana offers both the GED and HiSET exams for that purpose.
The HSE program offers individuals who left high school without a diploma another chance to earn an equivalent degree that qualifies for higher education and will lead to better job options.
If you are ready to take your career, academic education, or training to the next level, the HiSET or GED diploma may be your ticket toward a brighter future.
These days, a secondary education credential (high school diploma or equivalency credential) is absolutely required for college and for more than 85 percent of all vacant jobs in America. The HSE diploma is more important for employers than ever before.
Regardless of what you did and achieved in your life, the HiSET or GED exam will give you the option to go in any new direction you wish. The State of Montana offers you the chance to earn the state-issued HSE (high school equivalency) diploma via the HiSET or GED assessment method.
Obtaining the HSE diploma allows you to get into college and go after the career you’ve always dreamed of.
