The exam gives individuals who never graduated high school the chance to acquire an equivalent diploma.

The GED® exam comes with four separate sub-tests in the subject fields of

• Reasoning through Language Arts
• Social Studies
• Mathematical Reasoning
• Science

The GED subtests measure knowledge at a level that compares to that of graduating high school seniors.

Online GED testing was, until recently, not possible. You needed to come to a state-approved testing site in person, but that changed when the online GED test-taking option was introduced. Read more below. However, Florida has suspended the online GED test as of 1-10-24.

The Online GED Test

Until recently, taking the computer-based GED exam over the Internet was not an option. To get hold of a GED diploma, your personal appearance at one of Florida’s official GED testing facilities was required.

But now, that has all changed as an online, proctored GED exam was introduced, where an online proctor will help you through the test-taking process. Go to this post: ‘The online proctored GED exam‘ to learn more. Be aware, however, that online GED testing was suspended in Florida on Jan. 1, 2024.

GED Passing Score

GED results are calibrated on a scoring scale from 100 to 200. The passing score is 145 on EACH of the four modules. Averaging is NO option. There are three GED passing score ranges:

• 145-164 scores: High School Equivalency
• 165-174 scores: College-Ready
• 75-200 scores: College-Ready PLUS up to 10 College Credits, depending on the school and the subject
