GED Cost

The New Hampshire GED test costs $36 per subject test ($144 overall) when taken online or at a testing center in a computer-based format. New Hampshire is the only state where GED hopefuls can also take the GED exam on paper, but then, the cost is $46 per subject test ($184 in total).

HiSET Cost

The cost of the NH HiSET exam is $25 per subtest. Some testing centers provide practice tests, and these are not free (usually $10 to $15). The practice tests on this website are free. You have to be at least 16 years of age, but if you are 16 or 17, you may only be eligible if you meet strict requirements. Please contact the nearest testing center.

In New Hampshire, you must be a state resident to be able to take the exam, and please think about bringing a valid government-issued photo ID.

If you are taking the HiSET test in a paper-and-pencil format, you will receive your test results in two weeks, but if you opt for computer-based testing, you can check your scores immediately after testing, except for the writing section.

Scoring

The GED passing score is 145 on each of the four subject tests. Scoring takes place on a 100-200 scoring scale. The passing score ranges are:

  • 145-164: high school equivalent scores
  • 165-174: college-ready scores
  • 175-200 college-ready PLUS college credit scores

The passing score on each of the five HiSET subject area tests is 8 out of a possible 20. The essay section must result in at least 2 (out of 6) points, and the total score must not be under 45 (out of 100), not including your essay score.
