It doesn’t matter when you left school.

The exam is for adults who never graduated high school. It gives them the chance to obtain an equivalent diploma.

The HiSET® assesses knowledge at a level similar to what HS students must command upon graduation.

The HiSET (short for High School Equivalency Test) has five testing subject areas: writing, reading, social studies, math, and science.

In earlier days, there was no HiSET testing option. You had to come to an official NH testing site and sit for the tests (one at a time, if you wish) in person.

However, this has now changed with the arrival of an online proctored HiSET test-taking option. Read more below.

You have to be at least 16 years of age, but if you are 16 or 17, you may only be eligible if you meet strict requirements. Please contact the nearest testing center.

In New Hampshire, you must be a state resident to be able to take the exam. and please think about bringing a valid government-issued photo ID.
