It doesn’t matter when you left school.

The program is for people who, for some reason, left high school prematurely and gives them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

The GED (General Education Development) exam has four separate subtests in Literacy, Social Studies, Science, and Math.

You can take these subtests, or modules, one at a time. You don’t need to complete the entire GED battery in one take.

In the past, online GED testing was not available. Test-takers needed to come to an official Rhode Island GED test center.

But there have been some interesting developments with the introduction of an online proctored GED testing option. Check below for more information.

Introducing an online GED testing option

Sitting for the GED exam was, until recently, not possible in an online format. To acquire your GED credential, you always had to appear personally at a state-approved, official GED testing facility.

Now, finally, that has all changed with the launch of an online proctored GED exam. To learn all about this new development, check out the following page: ‘Welcoming the online GED test.’

Your future

When you have successfully taken all four individual GED subtests, you’ll be awarded the Rhode Island High School Equivalency Diploma, a credential that’s nationally recognized and accepted in the same way as a common high school diploma by employers and institutions of higher education.

As said above, if you wish, you can take one of the four GED subtests at a time. The Rhode Island fee for the entire exam is $120, or $30 per subtest. However, the state passed legislation to pick up that tab for low-income RI residents.
