You can sit for the four GED subtests online or at one of Maryland’s official test centers.

The exam is for adults who never completed high school and gives them the opportunity to acquire an equivalent degree.

The GED® exam measures proficiency at a level that compares to that of graduating high school seniors.

There are four individual GED subtests (modules) covering

  • English Language
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science

There’s no need to register for the four modules simultaneously. You can sit for the GED subtests one at a time.

GED Online Testing Option

Taking the four GED subtests via the Internet was, until recently, not possible. You had to show up personally at a state-designated GED test facility if you wanted to get ahold of your Maryland GED diploma.

Well, that has now changed. You can now take the GED exam as well in an online format. A proctor will, over an Internet connection, oversee your test-taking activities and check whether you do everything in line with the regulations. Go to this page: ‘The online proctored GED test’ to learn more.

Passing Score

The passing score for each subtest is 145. Your scores are measured on a scale with a range of 100 to 200. Averaging is not possible, so your total score cannot be under 580. Check also this page that has links to all U.S. GED prep sites and test centers. There is no need to prepare for (and take) all four tests at once. You may take one test (or module) at a time.

Eligibility Requirements

In Maryland, you are eligible to sit for the GED exam if you are at least 18 years of age, do not have a secondary education credential, and not be engaged in any school program. Young adults 16 and 17 years old may also qualify, but there are further strict regulations.

They must provide a withdrawal declaration from the school they last attended and produce a letter from an employer that states that they must have the GED diploma to gain or maintain a job.

A Brighter Future

The tests of General Education Development (usually named GED) offer adults who don’t hold a high school diploma the opportunity to earn a credential that’s considered equivalent to a common high school diploma.

GED graduates can continue their education in college, and the degree will surely lead to better employment. Holders of a high school or GED diploma are, on average, making some $9,600 more annually than people who don’t hold a secondary education credential.

Maryland GED Price

The Maryland GED test costs $144 for the full battery or $36.00 per subtest. First-time testers in Maryland, however, only pay $14.25 per subtest regardless of whether they take the exam online or at a test center. Maryland $21.75 per subtest for 1-st time test takers and only for their first attempt. Maryland does not subsidize retests. To benefit from this offer, use the code MDGED2175 upon checkout.
