The exams are for adults who were not able to complete their high school education.
The program enables them to acquire a credential that is equivalent to a common HS diploma.
The GED® has four individual subtests that cover these academic fields:
- English Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
You can take one or more GED subtests at a time. You don’t need to take the four tests in one session.
HiSET® testing is possible both on paper and on a computer. This option has five tests as Language includes a reading and a writing test. These subtests are also available separately.

Introducing Online GED and HiSET Tests
In earlier days, if you wanted to earn your high school equivalency (HSE) credential, you had to report, in person, to one of Ohio’s state-designated testing facilities. But now, we have seen some great new developments as both the GED and HiSET exams have introduced online testing as well.
To read more about the new online proctored HiSET test, visit ‘Online HiSET testing welcomed,’ and for more GED online testing, check out: ‘Introducing the online GED test.’
