The GED exam is given at state-recognized test centers and in an online proctored format.

The Texas GED® test is for adults who never finished high school, and this way, they have the chance to acquire an equivalent diploma.

The exam includes four subtests (modules) that measure proficiency in these academic subject areas:

  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Science

You are not required to complete the four GED modules in one testing session.

The GED is fully computerized and is offered in English and Spanish.

Welcoming Online GED Testing

It used to be that the GED test needed to be dealt with in person at one of Texas’ official HSE (high school equivalency) testing facilities. Taking the tests online was never possible. But now, that has changed with the introduction of an online proctored GED test.

If you want to read more about the online proctored GED exam, visit ‘The online proctored GED exam.’

Testing Fees

The Texas GED exam costs $145 for all four subtests, so $36.25 per subject test when taken at a test center. When taken online, the Texas GED test costs $42.25 per module, which is $159 in total. There’s no need to pay upfront for the entire exam. You only pay for the subtest(s) you register for. The GED diploma is your ticket to a college education and will make you successful on the work floor and in life. Online testing is more expensive.

Your Future

Not everyone is eligible for this exam. For you to be considered to sit for the GED exam, you must have mastered arithmetic and reading skills from grade-level classes. You must also have the ability to analyze the information available in journals, magazines, letters, etc.

The good thing about the GED exam is that the arithmetic skills required are simple math skills involving division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. The GED is modular, meaning you have the liberty to sit for one subject test (module) when you are sufficiently prepared.

You must be 18 years or older, but for 16/17 yr-old applicants, there are special arrangements under strict conditions, so see a testing site near you. You should not already have a g high school diploma or be engaged in a school program.

So before setting your feet towards the exam room, ensure you have these skills right at your fingertips: reading, arithmetic, and critical thinking skills. This means that you must have completed your 9th-grade reading level and be well-equipped with the aforementioned skills.
