In this post, we list all GED testing facilities and prep site locations in the Dickinson region. North Dakota is using the computer-formatted GED exam for high school equivalency testing.
GED testing can be done online or at one of North Dakota’s official testing facilities.
The exam offers people who couldn’t graduate high school one more shot at securing an equivalent credential.
Testing takes place at a level that’s similar to what HS seniors are expected to know when they graduate.
The GED® exam has four subtests that measure knowledge of these subjects:
- Math
- Social Studies
- Science
- Language Arts
These subject exams are independent modules that may be completed one subtest at a time and in the order you prefer.

In North Dakota, GED test-takers must additionally pass a U.S. Civics Exam to earn their North Dakota HSE (High School Equivalency) diploma.
In earlier days, GED testing over the Internet was not possible. Personal appearance at a state-designated testing facility was required.

In the past, sitting for the four GED subtests over the Internet was never an option. That is, until recently. You were always required to come personally to an official North Dakota state-designated GED testing site.

Who is the GED Exam for?
To pass the GED exam, adults who did not complete their regular high school education must demonstrate, via four separate tests, that they command academic skills, knowledge, and concepts at the level that can be expected of students after four years of high school education.
The GED exam was developed to help adults who never completed their high school education acquire a credential that is nationally recognized and accepted as equivalent to a standard high school diploma by practically all schools, employers, and government organizations.
