It doesn’t matter when you left school.

Both exams are for individuals who left high school prematurely and give them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

The assessments measure fundamental knowledge at a level that compares to that of high school students after four years of education.

The HiSET® is available both on paper and on a computer, while the GED is fully computer-formatted.

The GED® has four individual subtests in literacy, math, science, and social studies that can be taken separately.

The HiSET exam has two literacy tests (1 on writing and 1 on reading), so five in total, that can also be taken separately.

Can I join the army with a GED?

Online GED or HiSET testing

Testing over the internet is now possible for qualifying candidates. Until recently, testing was exclusively possible face-to-face at certified testing centers, but that has now changed. To learn more about online HiSET testing, <- check here.

To qualify for online GED testing, candidates must score in the “green zone” of the GED Ready® practice test. To learn all about online proctored (OP) GED testing, <- check out this post.

Go to GED.com, where a lot of GED program information is available, and when you create your own account via MyGED, you will be guided through the processes step-by-step. You need an email address (if you don’t have one, you can create one right there online) and a major credit or debit card.

GED registration

Through digitalization, the registration and scheduling process for your GED tests has become extremely easy, and your test results will be available before you will leave the testing center’s premises. GED.com is the place to go.

GED passing score

At MyGED, you can also find a lot of useful information about colleges and universities, employment developments, and training options. The GED passing score is 145, and the scale on which your scores are measured runs from 100 to 200. So your minimally required overall score is 580. The HiSET exam comes with its own scoring system.
