The exam can be taken online or at one of Arkansas’ state-approved GED testing centers. The GED® (General Education Development) test is specifically developed for adults who never finished high school.
The GED exam assesses basic knowledge at a level that high school students must command upon graduation. If they pass the GED exam, they will receive a credential that is accepted in the same way as a regular HS diploma.

SouthArk offers an Adult Education Program that is funded by an Arkansas Department of Workforce Education grant. All applicants are assessed to determine their academic level and placed accordingly.
Tuition is self-paced and individualized. Adult learners can use the school’s computers, which offer modern educational tools. The school provides daytime and evening classes free of charge both on-campus and at various satellite locations.
The school’s Adult Education Program offers adult learners the chance to enhance fundamental writing, reading, and math knowledge and competencies. Adults can work on their basic skills to get, for example, better ACT scores, boost their chances on the job market, be eligible for a job promotion, or prepare for the GED exam.

Also available: the Wings to Recover Re-Entry Program for probationers. To enroll, applicants need to come to SouthArk’s East campus on 300 S West Avenue and attend an orientation session for proper placement. These classes are exclusively for probationers and are provided by SouthArk on Wed. & Thu. from 8 a.m. to noon at the Corrections Facility’s Probation Parole Office.

Introducing the Online GED Exam
It is now also possible to take the GED exam online. In the past, GED test-takers were required to report to an official Arkansas GED test center in person when they wanted to secure their Arkansas GED diplomas.
