Online GED Test

The GED exam is now also offered online. In the past, you had to show up in person at one of Alaska’s official GED test centers if you wished to acquire your high school equivalency degree.

That has now changed with the arrival of an online GED test with the help of an online proctor. To qualify for online testing, students need to score in the “green” zone on the GED Ready® official practice test. Detailed information is found here: The online proctored GED exam.

The GED Exam

The GED exam is totally different from earlier versions and is offered only on a computer. The GED exam includes four tests in the following subjects: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, and you have around 7 hours to take the four tests.

There’s no need to do everything (all four subtests) in one take; you can take the tests one by one if you want. The GED exam is in accordance with the demands and requirements of universities and industry.

If you write the GED exam at a testing facility, you’ll get two discounted retakes. If you take the exam online, you do not.

The GED test is a challenging assessment, and getting well-prepared is the key to success. To study more efficiently, take our free GED practice tests and learn which GED subjects fields you have already mastered and which need most of your time to reach GED passing scores.

The Four GED Tests

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts (150 minutes) examines a student’s ability to read closely, write clearly, and understand standard written English.
  • Mathematical Reasoning (115 minutes) addresses Quantitative Problem Solving (45%) and Algebraic Problem Solving (55%).
  • Science (90 minutes) concentrates on Life Science (40%), Physical Science (40%), and Earth and Space Science (20%).
  • Social Studies (70 minutes) focuses on Civics and Government (50%), History of the United States History (20%), Economics (15%), and Geography and the World (15%).

GED Passing Score

If you want to pass the GED exam, you are required to have a score of no less than 145 points in each individual subject area, meaning you must get to a minimum score of 580 in total, and there is no averaging. In the GED system, the scores are qualified as follows:

  • 100-144 = below passing
  • 145-164 = passing score
  • 165-174 = college-ready score
  • 175-200 = college-ready + credit
