This page includes an overview of all GED preparation classes and testing locations in the Fort Lauderdale area. Florida uses the fully computer-based GED exam for its high school equivalency testing program.

The GED exam can be taken online or at one of Florida’s official test centers. Check below for more online GED testing information. Note, however, that Florida has suspended online GED testing as of 1-10-2-24.

The exam is for persons who did not graduate high school and gives them the chance to get hold of an equivalent degree.

The GED® exam measures academic proficiency via four individual subtests (independent modules) in these subject fields:

• Social Studies, including History, Economics, and Geography
• English Language Arts
• Mathematics
• Science, including Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, and Physics

Testing is done at a level comparable to that of high school seniors upon graduation.

You can take one GED subtest at a time and in the order you like. There’s no need to complete all four tests in one session.

Introducing the Online GED Test

To take the computer-based GED exam, there never was, until recently, an online option. To earn your GED degree, you had to come, in person, to one of Florida’s state-designated GED test centers and pass the four GED modules.

Now, that has changed as a new online proctored GED exam was introduced with the help of an online proctor who will guide you through the entire test-taking process.
