Online GED and HiSET Testing

Students wishing to earn their high school equivalent diploma in Colorado have the option of taking the GED or HiSET exam over the Internet. Until recently, to earn the GED diploma, test-takers were required to come to an official Colorado testing center and sit for one of the three exams in person.

Now, all of that had changed. Both the GED and HiSET launched online versions of the exam using a proctor. More information is found here -> ‘The online GED test,’ and for the HiSET: ‘The online HiSET exam.’

Passing Scores

The passing score on each of the four GED subtests is 145. The tests are scored on a 100-200 scale, so the passing score is 145. The three GED passing score ranges are:

  • high school equivalent range: 145-164
  • college-ready range: 165-174
  • college-ready plus credit range: 175-200

On the HiSET exam, you must attain at least 8 points of a possible 20 on each of the five subtests. Your overall score must be no less than 45, and your essay score must be at least 2.

In Colorado, there are more than 435,000 individuals who, for some reason, did not complete their high school training. Adults who don’t hold a secondary diploma will encounter huge problems finding a good job and will not be able to achieve their full potential.

People without a high school or HSE diploma usually have higher unemployment rates and jobs with lower wages than their counterparts who do have a degree.
