Posted here is an overview of GED (HiSET in Tennessee) prep locations and testing sites in the Cookeville region. In Tennessee, you must pass the HiSET exam to earn your High School Equivalency diploma.

The HiSET exam can be taken online or at one of Tennessee’s official testing centers.

The exam is for individuals who never completed high school and gives them the opportunity to earn an equivalent degree.

Testing takes place at a level comparable to that of graduating high school seniors.

The HiSET® has five subtests covering

• English Language Literacy Writing
• English Language Literacy Reading
• Science
• Social Studies
• Math

These sub-tests can be taken on paper or on a computer, one at a time if you prefer, and in any order.

Online HiSET testing had, until recently, never been an option. Test-takers needed to come to an official Tennessee HiSET testing site.

Your Future

The HSE (high school equivalency) program offers adults with no high school diploma the chance to earn a credential that compares to a regular high school degree.

The certificate that is awarded after completing the Tennessee HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) is accepted all over the United States by official institutions, colleges, and employers.

Tennessee made the switch from the GED to the HiSET because the latest edition of the GED exam is completely computer-formatted, whereas the HiSET can be done both on paper and on a computer.

On the HiSET exam, you need to attain at least a score of 8 (out of a possible 20) on all five individual subtests. Your essay must score between 2 and 6, and your overall score must be at least 45 (out of a possible 100), not including your essay.
