The HiSET® exam, like the GED®, is for adults who could not complete high school and gives them a chance to earn an equivalent degree.

The four GED testing areas are:

  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Social Studies
  • Science

HiSET testing is available both on paper and on a computer. The GED is entirely computer-based.

Online GED and HiSET testing is now also an option. You can show up in person, at a state-approved test center or take the GED or HiSET exam at home in an online proctored format.

Indiana GED Requirements

Your Future

These days, we can still find close to 40 million men and women in the U.S. who, for some reason, never finished high school, and the HSE program is basically designed for them. Every year, more than half a million students complete the HiSET or GED exam, and you might be one of them.

A few years back, the state of Indiana introduced CTB/McGraw-Hill’s TASC high school equivalency (HSE) assessment program. The TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) replaced the GED exam that has been in use for decades. However, the state has decided to switch to the HiSET exam. Now, both the GED and HiSET are available.

In total, you need around 7.5 hours to deal with all five HiSET or four GED subtests, generally split up over several days, but you also have the option to deal with the subtests separately.

The GED and the HiSET exams are available online and at state-approved test centers. If you earn your HSE diploma, you will definitely get better employment options, and the credential also allows for continued education in college. You may also want to take a look at the practice tests for your GED or HiSET exam that are offered for free on this website.
