In Hawaii, you can sit for the GED exam only at one of the state’s certified GED testing sites. Online GED testing is NOT available in Hawaii.

The GED® exam has four separate and independent subtests (modules) in these subject fields:

  • Science
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Language Arts

GED testing is entirely computer-based, and you can sit for the four subtests one at a time when you are ready to do so.

It used to be that GED testing could be done exclusively at designated test sites. There was no online testing option.

Now, however, that has changed with the arrival of online testing options in many states but not in Hawaii.

Online GED Testing

Until recently, taking the GED exam over the Internet was not possible. If you wanted to secure your GED diploma, you had to come to an official state-approved testing site.

Well, this has now changed in many states as GED Testing Service has introduced an online version with the use of an online proctor. More information can be found in this article: ‘The online proctored GED test.’ Please note, however, that in Hawaii, online testing is NOT available.

You can take one of the four GED subtests at a time. There is no need to do it all at one time. Just prepare for one part, and take that subtest when you are all set to do so.

GED Acceptance

Holding the Hawaii HSE (high school equivalency) diploma demonstrates that you have academic skills that are equivalent to those of a high school graduate.

More than 97% of US universities and colleges and about 99% of employers in the United States accept the GED diploma in lieu of a conventional high school diploma because they are equivalent.

By working towards earning your GED exam and securing the HSE (High School Equivalency) diploma, you can have an opportunity to enroll in higher education and an opportunity for a well-paying job and a rewarding career.

GED Passing Score

Your GED scores are calibrated on a scale from 100 to 200. On EACH GED sub-exam, the passing score is 145. Averaging is no option. Passing scores are from 145 to 200 points.

  • 145-164 = GED high school equivalency
  • 165-174 = GED college-ready
  • 175-200 = GED college-ready + credits (up to 10 college credits, depending on the subject and the college/university)
