Listed on this page are all GED prep locations and testing sites in and around Honolulu and Maui. The GED is for people who never completed high school; it gives them one more chance to earn an equivalent credential.

Hawaii also offered the five-test HiSET exam for the purpose of high school equivalency testing, but that option was discontinued.

The Hawaii GED exam can be taken only at one of Hawaii’s certified testing centers. The online exam is NOT offered in the state.

The computer-formatted GED exam is a challenging assessment, and proper preparation is required. This website’s free GED online classes will help you discover if learning with an online program suits you well. If so, continue with Onsego.

You may attend a class and learn under the supervision of a teacher at one of the facilities listed below or sign up for an accredited online course like the one developed by Onsego GED Prep. GED Testing Service recognizes Onsego’s GED course as “100% in line with the current GED test.”

The GED exam contains four independent, modular sub-exams that cover the academic subject areas of

• Reasoning through Language Arts (writing and reading combined in 1 sub-exam)
• Science, incl. Physica and Chemistry
• Social Studies, incl. Economics, Geography, and History
• Mathematical Reasoning

You have the option to prepare for, register for, and pay for the four separate GED sub-exams one at a time.

The GED is only available on a computer, and in today’s economy, that is only logical since practically all jobs (also those at the entry level) will demand applicants to master at least basic computer and keyboarding skills.

In the past, online GED testing was not an option. Your personal appearance at an official Hawaii test center was required. Now, however, that all changed when online GED testing was introduced. Read more below.

The City of Honolulu has partnered with WCSA (Waipahu Community School for Adults) for two new programs to help adults earn a GED and improve professional skills. The programs (iCAN 2.0 and GED Preparation) aim to help adults hoping to transition into higher education or a professional work environment. GED classes will be available at Honolulu’s Dept. of Community Services (WorkHawaii Division Office), Dole Cannery Office Building, Suite 700. Online GED Exam

In the past, taking the GED exam online was not possible. It simply wasn’t available. To earn their HSE (High School Equivalency) diplomas, test-takers needed to show up at an official testing site.

Now, all of that has changed in many states, as the GED Testing Service has introduced an online version of the GED test with an online proctor. More information is found here: The online GED test, but online testing is NOT offered in Hawaii.

GED Scoring

GED scoring takes place on a 100-200 scale. There are four GED scoring ranges:

• GED below passing score: 100-144
• GED passing score (high school equivalency): 145-164
• GED College-ready score: 165-174
• GED College-ready + college credit score: 175-200
