Additionally, New Mexico welcomed the HiSET exam for this purpose. The HiSET is available both on paper and on a computer.

Both the GED® and HiSET® are offered online and at certified, state-approved test centers.

Both exams measure knowledge at the same level that may be expected of graduating high school seniors.

The GED exam comes with four separate subtests that can be completed one test at a time. The subtests cover the subjects of

  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Social Studies
  • Science

HiSET testing needs to be done through five subtests that may also be taken individually. The Literacy section includes separate writing and reading tests.

In earlier days, online GED or HiSET testing was never an option. The tests had to be taken at a state-approved testing center.

Now, however, we’ve seen some interesting new developments with the launch of online proctored GED and HiSET test-taking options. Read more below.

Online GED and HiSET Tests

In the past, sitting for the GED or HiSET test via the Internet was never possible. You always needed to come personally to an official New Mexico testing site. HSE testing was just never offered online. Now, however, we’ve witnessed some interesting developments with the launch of online HiSET and GED test-taking options.

To be able to take the HSE exam at home, you need to have a good Internet connection. An online proctor checks if you do everything according to the regulations. You can learn all about online HiSET-At-Home testing here: ‘Introducing the online HiSET test,’ and for more details about online GED testing, go to ‘Introducing the online GED exam.’
