Listed in this article are all GED prep classes and test centers in the Jacksonville region. Florida uses the fully computer-formatted GED exam for high school equivalency testing.

The GED exam can be taken online or at a state-designated GED test facility. On Jan. 10, 2024, however, Florida has suspended online GED testing. Learn more about online GED® testing below.

The exam is for adults who never finished high school and gives them a chance to earn an equivalent degree.

You can prepare for the computer-based GED test by attending a class at one of the below-listed facilities. You may also benefit from a good online GED prep course. In that case, we recommend Onsego GED Prep, a program that GED Testing Service describes as “100% in line with the GED test.”

The four GED (General Education Development) subtests are in the academic subject areas of:

• English Language Arts
• Mathematics
• Science, including Physics and Chemistry
• Social Studies, including Geography, Economics, and History

The GED is fully computerized; no more paper-and-pencil testing. The four GED subtests (independent modules) can be taken one at a time and in the order you wish.

Testing occurs at a level that compares to that of high school seniors upon graduation.

Introducing the Online GED Test

For taking the GED exam, there never was, until recently, an option via the Internet. If you wished to earn a GED, you needed to show up at an official GED test center and take and pass the four GED modules.

Now, that has changed as a new online GED testing option was introduced in which an online proctor will be guiding you through the process. Please note that as of 01-10-2024, Florida has suspended online GED testing. Check out this post to learn more: ‘The online proctored GED exam.’
