This page includes an overview of HiSET (formerly GED) prep class sites in the LaPlace area. Louisiana uses the HiSET exam for the purpose of High School Equivalency testing.
The exam is for adults without a high school diploma and gives them the chance to acquire an equivalent degree.
The HiSET® includes five subject tests in the academic sectors of Math, Language Reading, Language Writing, Science, and Social Studies.
The tests can be taken on paper or on a computer and can be dealt with separately.
Online HiSET or GED® testing was, until recently, not an option. The introduction of a new online testing format has changed that. Check below for more information.
The diploma that’s awarded after passing the HiSET or GED exam is recognized as the equivalency of a regular HS degree by practically all schools and employers across North America.

Introducing a HiSET online testing option
Until very recently, online HiSET testing was not possible. To secure your Louisiana high school equivalency (HSE) diploma, you were required to show up, in person, at one of Louisiana’s state-approved HiSET testing facilities. Now, however, all of that has changed with the arrival of an online HiSET test-taking option from your home.
The new online option, called the HiSET-Exam-At-Home, allows you to sit for the five HiSET modules from the comfort of your own home. An online proctor will oversee your test-taking and check if all occurs in accordance with the regulations. To learn more, check out ‘The Online Proctored HiSET Test’.
To qualify for taking the HiSET test in Louisiana, testers must be no younger than 16 years of age. However, students must be 19 or older to take the 5 HiSET exams (independent modules) without any further restrictions.
Underage testers (16-17-18 years old) are required to sign up for a state-approved WorkReady U program or for an official “LA Options” prep program within the state’s K–12 system. They must also attain satisfactory scores on the HiSET OPT (Official Practice Test).
HiSET applicants are not required to be Louisiana residents, and students 19 and up don’t need to take the HiSET OPT though it is highly recommended to do so as the test will indicate which subject areas need their attention most.
