There are five HiSET subtests that measure a student’s skills and knowledge of

The HiSET may, when taken at a test center, be done on a computer or in a paper-and-pencil format, though in Maine, only computer-based testing is available.
So in the past, in many states, testing was exclusively available at state-designated test centers. But recently, an online proctored option was introduced as well. Read more below.

Introducing the Online HiSET Test
Until recently, HiSET test-taking could not be done online, and this is still the case in Maine. To earn your Maine high school equivalency (HSE) diploma, you were required to show up at one of Maine’s official HiSET testing facilities. In many states, however, that has changed with the arrival of an online HiSET test-taking option called the HiSET-At-Home Exam.
So today, in many states, you can sit for the five HiSET modules (independent subtests) from your own home in an online version. Great, isn’t it?
