The GED exam can be taken at an official test center or online.

The assessment is for individuals who have never completed high school and gives them the chance to acquire an equivalent degree.

The GED® test measures knowledge at a level comparable to what high school seniors are supposed to command upon graduation.

The exam includes four subtests assessing knowledge in the subject areas of

  • Science
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • English Language Literacy

These four modules can be taken separately and in your desired order.

Introducing Online GED Testing

Until recently, the GED exam was only available at official Texas high school equivalency (HSE) test facilities. Online testing was simply never an option. Recently, however, all of this changed with the introduction of the online proctored GED test.

If you want more detailed information about the new online proctored GED exam, check out this page: Introducing the online proctored GED test.

Texas GED Qualification Requirements

Students wishing to earn their Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE) will have to take and pass the four (4) modular exams of the GED test. Applicants must be residents of the State of Texas.

Eligible students cannot be enrolled in a private or public high school or be high school graduates. The minimum age without any further restrictions in Texas is 18, but 16 and 17-year-old applicants may also qualify if they hold parent/guardian permission and are officially withdrawn from school.

The Texas fee for GED testing is $36.25 per subject test or $145 for the complete GED battery. All subtests can be taken separately. Online testing is more expensive.
