Registration for the GED exam must be done at the portal MyGED on the official GED Testing Service website, GED.com.

The free practice tests and online GED classes available on Best GED Classes will help you get started with your GED prep. However, they do not fully cover the GED exam’s material.

For that, we suggest you sign up for Onsego GED Prep, a full-scope, accredited, affordable program that will help you earn your GED diploma fast.

The GED® exam has four independent subtests that can be taken online or at one of Oregon’s official GED testing centers.

The four GED subject tests cover the academic subject areas of

  • Language Arts

You can take the four subtests one (or more) at a time and in any order you prefer.

GED stands for General Education Development, and the four tests are exclusively available in a computer-based format.

This makes sense because today, there’s practically no job out there that doesn’t require applicants to command basic computer and keyboarding skills.

Oregon GED Testing Requirements

  • In Oregon, GED test-takers must be at least 16 years old.
  • For applicants 16/17 years of age, however, strict additional requirements apply.
  • They must, for instance, be exempt from compulsory high school attendance or be living in a district where the ‘Oregon GED Test Option for Selected Secondary Students’ is valid.
  • Under-age GED testers also need parental consent.
  • GED applicants cannot already hold a high school or equivalent diploma.
  • They can also not be registered for another education program.
  • In Oregon, there is NO residency requirement.
  • Test-takers do not first have to attend a prep course or take the GED Ready® practice test. However, this doesn’t count for online GED testing.

Oregon GED Cost

In Oregon, the GED testing fee is $176.00 for the entire exam ($44 per subtest) if you take the exam at one of Oregon’s state-approved testing facilities or online. To qualify for online testing, however, you must reach “green zone” (likely to pass) results on the GED Ready test available on the GED.com website for $6.99.

Since you need to buy 4 GED Ready tests (one for each subject test), the total cost of taking the  GED test online will be $204! Sometimes, GED Testing Service offers the GED Ready test at a discounted rate.

Online GED Exam

So today, the GED exam can be taken online as well. Until recently, the exam was not available via the Internet, and to earn their GED diploma, test-takers had to come to one of Oregon’s official GED test centers and take the exam in person. That has now changed.

The GED test is now also available in an online format where an online proctor will monitor the process. More details can be found in this article: introducing the online proctored GED exam.

GED Retesting

As said earlier, the Oregon GED test costs $44 for each of the four individual GED subtests, so $176 in total when taken at a test center or online. If you didn’t pass a subject test, you can take two retests without any wait time. If you need to take that subject test for the third time, you’ll have to wait at least 60 days before you can retake that subtest.

You have two retests on each individual subject test at a discounted rate of just the $1o testing center fee. However, you need to take these retests within one calendar year. After one year, regular fees count again. The test center fee ($10) is due for all retakes. This all applies, however, only to on-site testing.

GED Acceptance

After passing the GED exam, you will be awarded the GED diploma, and this document is, all across the United States, recognized and accepted as being equivalent to a regular high school diploma by all employers, government agencies, colleges, and universities. Don’t forget to check our post on signing up for the GED exam with the portal MyGED.

Holding the GED diploma will definitely boost your employment options, and the credential qualifies you for job promotions. More than 96 percent of educational institutions recognize the GED in the same way as a common high school diploma.

How to Prepare for the GED Test

For adults who never finished high school, obtaining a GED credential is vital because it will bring about better job options and clear the road to colleges and universities. Listed on this page are all prep locations in and around major Oregon areas.

The best way to identify what subject areas need your attention most is to take a GED Ready® Practice Test. If you know what to focus on, you don’t need to spend so much time on topics you already command.

You can enroll in the GED prep program at a brick-and-mortar facility in your area and get well-prepared for the GED exam under the guidance of a teacher. You can also use study books from your community library or local bookstore.

You can also get all set by following a well-structured online course. This website offers a limited number of free online GED video lessons and free GED practice tests (courtesy of Onsego GED Prep) to help you get started on your GED journey. Regardless of your preferred way to learn, just make sure you’ll get perfectly prepared. That’s your key to success!

How to Register for the GED Exam

Registration for the GED and test scheduling is done online via GED.com. You will have to set up your account with the portal MyGED. That’s where you can schedule your tests (one at a time if you wish) and pay for your tests.

Here, you can also find lots of information about developments in the job market, academic programs offered by universities and colleges, everything related to the GED test-taking process, and a lot more.

One Test at a Time

A great advantage is that you “pay as you go.” You can take one test every time you feel all set for that part and only pay for one test! If you can find a test center that can accommodate it, you can take all four tests on the same day, but there is no need to do that.

GED Scoring

The GED passing score is 145  on a scale that runs from 100 to 200 points. Scoring is as follows:

  • 100-144 = Below Passing
  • 145-164 = High School Equivalency Passing Score
  • 165-174 = College-Ready Score
  • 175-200 = College-Ready Plus College Credit Score

Averaging is not possible, so 145 is the minimally required score on each of the four tests. Oregon does not require you to be a state resident, nor do you need to take a practice test prior to sitting for the GED tests at a test center. But preparation is crucial, so prepare well, take the exam, get your GED diploma, and live up to your full potential!
