Listed on this page are all HiSET and GED prep sites and testing centers in the Portsmouth area. New Hampshire uses two options for its high school equivalency (HSE) testing program: the GED and HiSET exams.
You can write the GED® and HiSET® exams online or at one of New Hampshire’s official HSE test centers.
The exams are geared towards individuals who quit high school prematurely and give them a chance to earn an equivalent degree.
Both exams measure an applicant’s knowledge at a level similar to what may be expected of students after four years in high school.
GED testing involves four independent modules assessing knowledge in these fields:
- Social Studies
- English Language Arts
The HiSET exam comprises five subject tests in the fields of reading, writing, science, math, and social studies.
The HiSET and GED exams are available in both paper- and computer-based formats and the subtests may be taken individually.
In earlier days, GED and HiSET testing had to be done at state-recognized testing sites. There was no online option, but the recent introduction of the online proctored GED test and the HiSET-AT-Home exam has changed that. Learn more below at the bottom of this post.

Welcoming the Online GED and HiSET Tests
In the past, if you were looking to sit for the GED or HiSET exam, your personal appearance at an official New Hampshire testing site was required. There simply was no online high school equivalency (HSE) testing option offered.
But now, this has all changed with the arrival of the online proctored GED test and the HiSET-At-Home exam. To learn more about the online HiSET option, check out Introducing the HiSET-At-Home test. To read all about the Online Proctored (OP) GED Test, visit this page.
