This post includes an overview of all GED prep classes and testing centers in the Roseville area. California is using the computer-based GED exam for its high school equivalency testing program.
The state additionally offers the HiSET exam for this purpose which is offered both on-computer and on-paper.
HiSET® and GED® testing is now also possible online. Check below for more details about online HiSET and GED testing.
The exams offer adults who didn’t complete high school the chance to acquire an equivalent credential.
There are four separate GED subtests (modules) in Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
On the HiSET exam, the Language section has separate reading and writing tests, so five in total.
The GED and HiSET modules may, if you wish, be taken separately.

Online GED and HiSET testing
Students wishing to earn a California Equivalency Diploma can now also take the HiSET and GED exams online. Until just recently, there was not an online option to do so. You had to appear in person at a state-designated testing site, but now, that has changed.
HiSET and GED testing is now also available in an online, proctored version. Learn more here: ‘The online HiSET exam,’ and for information on the online GED exam, go to -> ‘The online proctored GED test.’
What is the GED exam?
The General Educational Development exam, commonly referred to as the GED, is a standardized exam distributed throughout the U.S. It is the purpose of the exam, like the HiSET, to help individuals who did not graduate high school. The California HSE diploma allows these adults to acquire the needed credentials to further their education or advance in the working world.
The GED exam has four testing sections (modules): Reasoning through Language Arts (155 minutes, including a 10-minute break and a 45-minute essay); Mathematical Reasoning (115 minutes, this part includes an on-screen calculator); Science (90 minutes); and Social Studies (70 minutes).
In California, the four-test GED exam costs $140 ($35 per individual test). Testing is done on a computer, and you have the freedom to prepare for and take one of the four tests (modules) at a time. The HiSET is slightly cheaper, and these subtests may also be taken separately.
How to sign up for the GED test
Go to GED.com to find preparation materials and general information regarding the GED program, and sign up at MyGED to discover an online portal that will guide you perfectly through the entire program. Because the GED exam is totally computerized, applicants will need to have basic keyboarding skills.
In California, GED testers must be 18 years old or older. 17 year-olds mays, however, also be eligible to sit for the 4-modules GED or 5-modules HiSET exam if, just to mention a few options, they are officially unregistered from their schools, have been out of school for at least 60 days, and produce a request for testing from a military branch, prospective employer, or an institution of higher education stating the candidate is required to take the exam. Students within 60 days of their 18th birthday may also qualify, no matter their education enrollment status.
Students that successfully take the GED or HiSET assessment at the age of 17 will not receive their Equivalency Certificate until they reach their 18th birthday. you are 18 years of age.
Taking the HiSET or GED assessment is only open to California residents, but there’s no requirement for students to attend a preparatory program prior to testing or reach satisfactory score results on an official practice test. But since both assessments are quite challenging, getting decently prepared is key.
