This post lists all GED preparatory classes and testing locations in the Santa Clarita region. California is using the GED exam for its high school equivalency testing program.
Additionally, California introduced the HiSET exam for this purpose.
Both exams are now available online and at state-certified testing centers. For more information about online testing, check below.
The HiSET® is available in both paper-based and computer-formatted versions, whereas the GED® is done exclusively computer-based.
The GED includes four individual subtests in math, social studies, science, and literacy that may be dealt with separately.
The HiSET exam contains five subtests (Literacy has individual writing and reading tests) that may be taken separately as well.

Online GED and HiSET testing
Both the GED and the HiSET are now offered in an online format as well. Until recently, that was not possible, and to earn their high school equivalency diploma, students had to come to an official state-designated testing site and sit for the exams in person.
That has changed. The GED and HiSET tests are now also available in an online proctored format. If you want to read more about this great development, go to these posts: The online GED exam and for information on the HiSET exam, check out: The online HiSET exam.
The GED credential
The certificate that you will be handed out after you successfully complete the California High School Equivalency (HSE) test, is all over the country accepted as being equivalent to a normal high school diploma.
The GED (General Education Development) test examines fundamental subject areas that students learn in high school, and subjects addressed in the exam and in GED preparation programs include math, science, literacy or language arts (writing and reading), and social studies.
GED and HiSET
The HiSET is also available in paper format, whereas the GED exam is only offered on a computer. The GED (General Education Development) test and the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) are developed especially for adults who don’t have a high school diploma.
These programs are offering them one more opportunity to obtain a diploma that compares to a standard high school diploma. The HiSET exam has five subtests that cover Science, Social Studies, Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, and Math. The GED has four subtests as it combined the Reading and Writing tests into one Language Arts subtest.
Test centers can decide which of the testing programs they will administer, so check with the test center near you. The HiSET program offers the test in both a paper-formatted and a computerized version.
You can get a maximum amount of 200 points (the scale goes from 100 to 200) on each of the four GED subject fields, and the passing score is 145 on each of the four subtests.
The minimally required HiSET score is 8 points on each sub-test (out of 20), the essay score must be no less than 2 (out of 6), and the total result you reach must be in the 45-100 range.
