It doesn’t matter when you left school.

The GED® exam measures basic knowledge at a level comparable to that of graduating HS students.

Over the period 2014 through 2021, New York was offering the TASC exam for the purpose of high school equivalency (HSE) testing, but this was discontinued at the end of 2021. You can transfer TASC scores to the new GED test!

The GED exam is fully computer-formatted and has four independent sub-exams that cover Literacy (Writing and Reading in one sub-exam), Math, Science, and Social Studies. Paper-based GED testing is not available anymore.

The New York State GED exam cannot be taken online yet and is only available at certified GED test centers.
