The HiSET® and GED® assessments give adults who quit high school prematurely the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

Both exams assess knowledge at a level comparable to that of graduating high school students.

The GED must be done entirely on a computer and has four separate subtests (modules) in

  • Science
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Language Arts

The HiSET includes five testing fields (separate writing and reading tests) that can be taken on a computer or on paper.

You have the liberty to sit for the HiSET or GED subtests one at a time.

Online GED, HiSET Testing

You can now take the GED and HiSET exams online as well. Until recently, if you were looking to earn a GED, you needed to come, in person, to an official California GED testing center.

Well, that has all changed! The GED and HiSET exams are now also offered online with a proctor who will check if everything goes in line with some rather strict regulations. To learn more, check out the following pages: ‘The online GED test,’ and for HiSET testing: ‘The online HiSET test.’
