This article lets you discover all GED preparatory options and testing facilities in the Vacaville region. California offers two options to adults wishing to earn their high school equivalency credentials, the GED and HiSET exams.
Testing can be done online or at one of California’s official test centers. You can read more about online GED and HiSET testing below.
The exams are for people who left high school before graduating and offer them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.
The fully computer-based GED exam includes four subtests (modules) in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy.
These GED® modules are independent tests that may be taken separately.
The state also welcomed the HiSET® exam which has five subtests as there are separate writing and reading tests.
The five HiSET modules can be taken separately as well.
Both HSE tests measure proficiency at a level that’s comparable to that of graduating high school seniors.
The GED is only offered in a fully computerized format, whereas the HiSET is offered on paper and computer-based.

Online proctored GED and HiSET tests
If you’re looking to earn your California high school equivalency degree, you can take the GED and HiSET exams online as well. Until recently, that option was not available. If you wanted to secure your GED, you were required to come in person to one of California’s state-approved test centers.
That has now changed! Both the GED and HiSET exams offer options to sit for the exams at home with the help of an online proctor. To learn more, check out the following articles: ‘The online proctored GED test’ and ‘The online proctored HiSET exam.’
For who is the GED test?
The GED (General Education Development) exam, just like the HiSET, is specially developed for adults who never completed high school and is meant to give them another chance to obtain an equivalent credential.
After passing the GED or HiSET exam, you will be awarded the California HSE diploma, which is all over the country recognized and accepted just like a regular high school diploma by government agencies, recruiters, businesses, and colleges and universities.
GED and HiSET
The HSE program is for persons who never finished high school and gives them one more chance to get hold of a diploma that is, across North America, seen as the equivalency of a regular high school degree.
Both tests (GED and HiSET) will result, upon successful completion, in the California High School Equivalency Diploma, a credential that is your ticket to higher education and better job options.
The HiSET is used in the same way as the GED but is a little bit more affordable than the GED test. This alternate is also available both in a computer- and a paper-based format and contains five subtests (literacy is split up into separate writing and reading tests).
On each GED subtest, you must attain at least a 145 score (on a 100-200 scale). On the HiSET, you’ll have to reach a score of no less than 8 out of 20 points, and also here, your essay score has to be at least a 2, and your total score must be in the 45-100 range.
