The exams offer individuals who didn’t graduate high school another shot at obtaining an equivalent degree.
Both exams measure academic proficiency at a level that compares to that of graduating HS students.
The GED does so via four independent modules (subtests) that cover
- Science
- Social Studies
- Math
- Language
Applicants have the option to complete the four GED subtests one or more at a time and in any order.

The HiSET exam is offered on paper and on a computer, while the GED exam is entirely computer-based.

The school’s Learning Assistance Center (situated on the 2nd floor of the Learning Resource Center – room 704) and the school’s campuses at KRV and ESCC campuses at Mammoth and Bishop provide HSE preparation classes. Cerro Coso Community College also offers an online HSE prep course (EDUC C005), to provide additional support to help students pass the exam.

Online Proctored GED and HiSET Testing
If you’re looking to acquire your California High School Equivalency Diploma, you can now sit for the HiSET or GED exam over the Internet. In the past, that was no option. To get hold of a GED, you needed to come, in person, to an official California GED testing center.

GED Passing Score
GED scores are calibrated on a scale from 100 to 200. On each module, the passing score is 145. There are four GED scoring ranges:
- Below Passing: 100-144
- High School Equivalency: 145-164
- College-Ready: 165-174
- College-Ready + Credit: 175-200
HiSET results are measured on a scale from 0 to 20. On each of the five modules, the passing score is 8, and your total result must be in the 45-100 range. Additionally, your essay score must be at least 2 out of 6.
