It doesn’t matter when you left school.

The assessments give adults who ever graduated high school an extra opportunity to get hold of an equivalent diploma.

The HiSET® and GED® exams examine knowledge at a level that high school students must command upon graduation.

The GED exam has four separate tests that may be taken separately in the fields of Math. Literacy, Social Studies, and Science.

The HiSET has five tests (Literacy has individual writing and reading tests) that are also offered separately.

GED testing is done exclusively on a computer, whereas the HiSET is offered on-paper and on-computer.

Until recently, there never had been an option to take the HiSET or GED online. You needed to come to an official Massachusetts testing site. But that has changed as both the HiSET and the GED exam are now offered over the internet as well. Learn more below.

Free online GED or HiSET Prep Classes

Online GED and HiSET test options

It used to be that sitting for the GED or HiSET exam online was not available. Both exams had to be completed exclusively at one of Massachusetts’ state-designated testing facilities. But now, new, online, proctored testing formats were introduced for both the GED and the HiSET exam.

To learn more about the new online ‘HiSET-Exam-At-Home’ option, check out: ‘Introducing the online HiSET test.’ For more information about the online GED option, go to ‘The online GED exam.’
